As it turns out, barn storage isn’t a great idea. The MX5 had turned into a cozy house for rodents, mostly in the engine bay and above the fuel tank. The wiring to the fuel pump was completely gone, but the main loom has mostly escaped damage.
The trolley jack is somewhere, but using a Mini loader is easier than finding it. And easier in general.
Much undoing later, and ready to come out. Again, there’s an engine crane just out of shot, but when you’ve got a powered one to hand...
But not before causing a bloodbath. Someone forgot to drain the ATF...
Carrying on wiggling it out- only snag was the main engine fuse box, which turned out to easily unclip.
Eventually everything came free!
Now time to remove the rest of the loom- the plan is to strip everything non essential to engine/drive operation and build a new loom for everything else. I found a guide for removing the dash, which gave great detail about the fixings(including the wrong ones!), but completely glossed over which cables were to come off. Got there in the end though.
Quality radio install. Not seen chock blocks used for this before.
As it sits now.
Just need to finish removing the loom then the shell can be scrapped which will give the working space back. Next step is to work out where the engine will sit in the Metro to make engine mounts- The Mazda uses a very similar style to the BMC B series, but not in a usable location. Also stripping the loom and getting the engine running off the minimal wiring before it’s permanently in place.
More to come as it happens!

So the plan is to make that white panel van drive like a Miata, right?
RIGHT?

Have you considered swapping
the subframes from the MX-5 into the Metro? Looks like there's enough space.

If your Miata is on cart springs...

That would be a more advanced solution, the difficult part would be getting the steering somewhere in the right place, plus all the other work .
The real problem with doing that means it would (I think) need an IVA test like a kitcar, and wouldn’t be considered a historic vehicle anymore.

And by CART springs, OBVIOUSLY it means you’re installing springs similar to those used on cars like this:

If you've still got the steering wheel and hub I'll take those off your hands!

Make sure to sell that Eunos emblem! I know owners in the US would love to upgrade to that badge!
